The name “forget-me-not” comes from medieval European legends. One popular tale goes like this:

A knight or lover was picking these tiny blue flowers for his beloved while crossing a river. The current swept him away, but before he drowned, he threw the flowers to her and cried, “Forget me not!” The phrase stuck, and the flower became a symbol of faithful love and remembrance.
