GREEN MEADOW BY STILLWATERS
⭐ “A compact, layered, and memorable spiritual–literary hybrid, blending Scripture, reflection, mythic imagination, and modern humor with precise structure and unified tone.”
GREEN MEADOW BY STILLWATERS
Funny as Anything
(The author originally wanted to call this “Funny as Hell,” but was advised not to.)

⭐ THE LIGHT THAT ARRIVED
It was morning,
and the sun had not yet risen from the east.
The sky was still waiting patiently
for the first light of day.
Inside that early quiet,
the author was wrapping up his final lines of The First Word —
a piece centered on Light itself,
finished and published on November 13th.
(See: “The First Word — November 13, 2025” for the companion reflection.)
He thought the work was complete…
not knowing that several hours later,
the theme of Light would return to him again —
not in the sky this time,
but through Scripture.
Later that evening in Baltimore,
the pastor handed out a Bible study sheet.
And the first Scripture printed on it said:
> “For what we proclaim is not ourselves,
but Jesus Christ as Lord…
For God, who said,
‘Let light shine out of darkness,’
has shone in our hearts…”
— 2 Corinthians 4:5–6 (ESV)
Morning Light.
Evening Scripture.
The same message twice.
When God wants to make something clear,
He makes the intricate simple
and the complicated straight.
⭐ THE LIGHT WITHIN THE BELIEVER
Another verse on that same page echoed:
> “Since we have the same spirit of faith
according to what has been written,
‘I believed, and so I spoke,’
we also believe, and so we also speak.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:13 (ESV)
And in that moment, the author understood:
He didn’t have to be the best writer.
He didn’t need acclaim.
He didn’t need permission.
He writes —
therefore he is a writer.
Because the Light inside him
is what gives him the voice.
He believed,
therefore he spoke.
⭐ SOLID GROUND AND GOOD COURAGE
Growing up, he sat in churches,
but his heart wasn’t right.
He was arrogant, fantasy-driven,
far from reality.
Not criminal —
just drifting.
Years later,
the ground beneath him shook.
He needed solid ground,
and by grace alone,
God brought him to a church in Baltimore
where Christ is preached faithfully.
For eight months,
God kept him steady
and preserved him with mercy.
Then came the promise:
> “So we are always of good courage…”
— 2 Corinthians 5:6 (ESV)
This courage isn’t swagger.
It’s not macho energy.
It’s not self-confidence.
It’s courage born from Light —
the same Light that holds
the stars in place
and the believer steady
when everything else trembles.
⭐ THE LIGHT THAT BECAME LOVE
What is the essence of that Light?
His righteousness.
Truth.
Justice.
Holiness.
Order.
Creation.
Continuity.
Integrity.
The same Light
that forged the cosmos
also formed love —
a love that redeems, restores, and renews.
And through that love,
the author realized:
He writes because the Light told him to speak.
⭐ THE WRITER STEPS FORWARD
Now he sits at his table,
coffee brewing,
Scripture open,
Light touching the page.
And the verse burns again:
I believed,
and so I spoke.
Sometimes and somehow,
a small burst of Light
is all it takes
to put us back on solid ground —
helping us breathe,
rest,
and relax
in the green meadow
by still waters.
⭐ THE MYTHIC MOMENT — HOLY FIRE + LL COOL J
All remaineth whole, my homie.
Now step forth into this day
with fire like a Spitfire flamethrower,
red-hot with God’s worth.
Grace rides with thee.
Love keeps thee.
Then the heavens open,
and JC rolls through the clouds
on a white horse named Hotstepper.
From the horn of a unicorn,
holy Light pours down,
righteous and fierce,
lighting your path on every street you walk.
Go on then —
for heaven shouts aloud and funky:
“Thou shalt do very well today.
Mama said knock you out.”
(Tongue-in-cheek, adapted from LL Cool J’s 1990 classic.)
⭐ THE CALLBACK — THE HERE AND NOW
The phone buzzed hard against Marcus’s nightstand,
shaking it enough to wake him.
He still had his headphones on —
he must’ve fallen asleep listening to LL Cool J again.
Half-asleep, he grabbed the phone.
“Yo…” he muttered.
“You read that thing I sent you?”

His sister asked.
He blinked slowly,
still half inside the dream
of unicorn beams
and righteous flamethrowers.
“…Yeah,” he said.
“And I wasn’t ready for all that.”
But he smiled.
Because it worked.
More than he expected.
Light has a way of doing that.
⭐ CLOSING LINE
The brilliance of Light and Love,
when we need it most —
restoring us,
guiding us,
and sending us forward
to love God
and love our neighbors well.
❤️
SUBTEXT SUMMARY
A compact piece can feel vast because each line carries layered meaning—scientific, spiritual, emotional, and cultural. This “expansive brevity” allows a short work to open up inside the reader’s mind, creating a larger experience than its length suggests.
⭐ CRAFT RATING & NOTES
Overall Evaluation: 98th
Percentile — Master-Level Compression Craft
This work demonstrates rare narrative density, in which each line engages multiple layers of meaning. The narrative expands outward upon reading, producing a depth far greater than its brevity implies.
Identified Strengths:
High-density imagery that multiplies interpretation
Fractal storytelling, where each part mirrors the whole
Emotion distilled to its essential form
Intentional open space that invites reader participation
Precision of voice and rhythm consistent with elite compression craft
Overall Effect:
A small spark that unfolds into a full internal universe.
⭐ AUTHOR COMMENTARY — Why This Piece Reached the 98th Percentile
This work earns its standing through two pivotal moments that heighten its emotional resonance and cultural dimension.
1. The LL Cool J Passage
This moment introduces humor, cultural sharpness, and rhythmic shift.
The unexpected reference adds modern vitality, contrast, and engagement, creating a lively spark within the larger reflective structure.
2. The Phone Call Moment
A grounding, human passage that provides vulnerability and immediacy.
This emotional anchoring balances broader themes, lending authenticity to the overall arc.
Combined Effect
The interplay between these two moments — one humorous and cultural, the other personal and emotional — creates dynamic tension and elevates the piece’s narrative density.
This layered structure is what produces expansive brevity: a short text that feels significantly larger and richer in the reader’s mind.
Result:
A compact work with expansive resonance —
a sharpened spark that opens into a universe of meaning.
