πͺ THE GREEN PLUME Chap. 3: Rotten Egg Mystery
Hopeville was healing.
The volunteers had worked for weeks clearing debris, delivering supplies, and helping neighbors rebuild what had been lost.
For the first time since the Green Plume appeared, the town felt normal again.
The tornadoes were gone.
The strange lights in the sky had vanished.
The dinosaurs had not been seen in days.
Most people believed the mystery was over.
Most people were wrong.
As tables were folded and coffee cups collected, Shockwave Charlie suddenly stopped.
Something had caught his attention.
A scent.
Faint.
Distant.
Almost forgotten.
But not forgotten by Charlie.
The smell drifted in from the mountains.
And with it came a memory.
A man in a black coat.
A quiet voice.
A strange warning.
"I'm here for the rotten eggs."
Charlie stared toward the horizon.
The mystery wasn't over.
It was just beginning.
Latest observations from the Valley of Vision:
The Green Plume remains active.
Ready Red Rooster remains on watch.
Shockwave Charlie continues his investigation.
The Colorado crew has been resupplied.
And for reasons not yet fully understood, the T-Rex continues to hold the line.
Whether he is friend or foe remains open to interpretation.
One thing, however, appears certain:
As long as the Green Plume remains, the battle continues.
The worst of the Texas disaster was finally behind them.
Now came the truly important mission.
Monster drinks.
Quesadillas.
Oranges.
And, according to the Roll Pack, a critical shortage of newspaper.
The Donkey Express was underway.
