Toward Distant Stars

Cosmic Romance No. 2 — Two Hearts in Flight

From the light their tragedy revealed, new life was found.

They traced the path where early rockets burned,

Where lunar dust received each human tread;

Where Armstrong spoke and history was turned,

And mankind’s reach through all the world was spread.

They heard Apollo’s steadfast voices call,

Through storm and fire, their courage held the line;

Those journeys live in memory for all,

Bright milestones set against the vast design.

Now newer engines rise toward farther skies,

With Starship dreams and silver wings unfurled;

Bold hands and patient craft together rise

To carry human longing past this world—

A longing no less present in the heart.

So Romeo and Juliet moved on—the more they gave—

Toward distant stars, their love rose to greater heights.
