An Expansion on Greek Mythology — American Mermaid
I. Who Is Ahu?
Her name is Ahu Psyche.
Ahu is her first name.
Psyche is what it means — Soul.
Ahu Psyche — the American Mermaid. The youngest of the Three Sisters. The one in the yellowish-orangish tank top with the red number 5 on the abdomen and her green jeans, trident in hand, at the trout pond.
Too radiant for the mortal world, too mortal for Olympus. That is where she belongs — between two worlds.
II. The Three Sisters
In a kingdom by the sea, there were Three Sisters. The eldest two were admired for their beauty, but the youngest — Ahu — was worshipped. Because her soul was so luminous that mortals whispered, "Aphrodite herself has come down to us."
III. Aphrodite — Mother of Eros
On Olympus, Aphrodite, mother of Eros, heard prayers no longer meant for her. Jealous, she called her son.
"Eros, make this Ahu fall in love with the most wretched creature on earth."
True Greek lineage only — Aphrodite and Eros.
IV. The Law of The Arrow
Eros carries arrows tipped with longing. The Law is simple and mythical: Whoever is struck by his arrow falls madly in love with the next person they see. Madly. Irrevocably.
In the trout pond stands his statue — small god, great bow, heart glowing on the tip.
V. Eros Descends — The Pivot
Eros flew to the pond. Ahu stood there.
He had two choices. He could shoot her, as his mother, a goddess, commanded. She would fall madly in love with the next thing she saw — perhaps him. That would have worked.
Or he could defy a goddess — which is madness.
He trembled. The arrow slipped. He nicked himself instead of her.
He shot himself. Looked up. And the next person he saw was Ahu.
So Love fell madly in love with Soul.
Either arrow, same landing. That's how you know it was destiny.
VI. First Meeting — Love At First Sight — The Button
Later — near the Eiffel Tower — their first meeting. Love at first sight, because of the arrow.
Two young people walking together.
He glances at her in her green jeans and says, "Say chic."
She smiles — Soul looking at Love — and answers, "C'est chic."
S-A-Y C-H-I-C.
C-apostrophe-E-S-T C-H-I-C.
The arrow had already landed, long before Paris. Back at the trout pond.
He just finally found who he was supposed to see.
Ahu is her first name. Psyche is what she means. Soul.
And that is how they end up together.
