Part 3 of 5 — Chesapeake Bay Program: Ecology, Competition, and Transformation

The structured world of research, responsibility, and discovery

In 1986, Scott L. was selected for a competitive, research-focused program on the health of the Chesapeake Bay. Ten days of immersion tested knowledge, discipline, and curiosity. The program examined agricultural runoff, local crop management, and plant cultivation techniques, blending horticulture and botany in real-world applications.

Scott L. wore his cherished red shirt, emblazoned with the Chesapeake Bay insignia—a small patch on the front, larger artwork on the back. This uniform became a badge of honor, symbolizing a transformative experience. Mornings greeted him with glass-like waters reflecting the orange-red sunrise and violet sky above.

Meals consisted of tuna fish and bologna sandwiches—except on the day we caught our own seafood delicacies: thirty-six blue crabs, a six-foot eel, and a stingray, each bite carrying the memory of the Bay’s natural salt and freshness.

Born Blessed in South Korea in 1969 and raised in Baltimore, I’ve built a career with 20 years in customer service and 10 years in behavioral health. The crowning jewel of my studies came when I earned the only passing grade of an A from a Harvard professor — a true master of the craft of Shakespeare

And the English language, whose guidance opened the gateway to worlds of imagination, discipline, and wonder.

Married for 25 years, I share the good life with two dogs (Isabella and Juliet) and one cat named Maddie. In my free time, I enjoy writing, biking, gospel music, and spending time with my pastor and friends.
