Part 3: Family, Food, and Culture

I married a Canadian girl, as sweet as can be, who knows how to cook and take care of me. While she’s cooking, I keep an eye out for wildlife—moose, brown bears, black bears, bobcats, mountain lions, and whatnot.

The people are friendly—smiles, courtesy, respect, kindness to the world. Tim Hortons everywhere, serving fresh food from scratch, with excellent coffee and a warm atmosphere. If I had to choose friends, Canadians all the way.

I ate bear once. Gamey. Couldn’t stop saying that word: gamey. Maybe it’s because it’s from the Canadian wilderness.

And on the road up to Kirkland Lake, you pass Niagara Falls—glorious, awe-inspiring. Makes you wonder how it all came to be. Could it be by the hand of God?

Scott L.

Born Blessed in South Korea in 1969 and raised in Baltimore, I’ve built a career with 20 years in customer service and 10 years in behavioral health. The crowning jewel of my studies came when I earned the only passing grade of an A from a Harvard professor — a true master of the craft of Shakespeare

And the English language, whose guidance opened the gateway to worlds of imagination, discipline, and wonder.

Married for 25 years, I share the good life with two dogs (Isabella and Juliet) and one cat named Maddie. In my free time, I enjoy writing, biking, gospel music, and spending time with my pastor and friends.
